Hey y'all! I went to the zoo and drew.

Just a note, the only reason I put the annoying watermark was because I used this page for my most recent portfolio. I definately won't be doing this on every post, because I know it can be a bummer when looking at art.

However, with that being said, I'm all for protecting ur art online, and if you feel the need to watermark ur stuff, I say go for it.

I'm almost done my film! Just need the last bit of music and then I just hafta tweak a couple things and then I'm good to go. Thank you all for the continuing support :)

Hey party people! I apologize for not updating sooner, but I'm hacking away at the metaphorical bush also known as my film. Here's a quick poster I did for the Flipbook this year. The Flipbook is an annual showcase of work from the animation kidz at Sheridan. It's always fun getting it and flipping through it (it's usually the thickness of half a phone book) and provides hours of enjoyment.

And as always, with a new poster comes a new cheesy tagline. This one is thanks to Tracey who thought this line from a well-known nursery rhyme would fit perfectly for my film, and it does! I'd also like to thank Andrea for helping me with the lighting :)

And as a minor note, this is my 60th post. Now get drunk and celebrate my achievement!

My early Christmas gift..

So this is a very exciting post for me. It's all about my very first custom-made doll! The extremely talented Sarah Wallace graciously made this doll of Amelia von Earl for me, and it's pretty friggin' awesome. She has her regular outfit which you can see in the poster and model sheets below (complete with bumble bee hair band), but Sarah also made her different outfits, including a knit sweater, hat and scarf, as well as silky purple pajamas!

If I don't talk to you guys until 2009, have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Kwazy Kwanzaa, Tip Top Tet, and a solemn, dignified Ramadan :) I think I said the same thing last year, but Krusty is always right.

Well, here's another poster I made today for my film. I apologize for all the Amelia von Earl posts, but it's the only thing I'm working on right now.. plus it's not so much the posters that are fun to make, it's more the taglines.. yes.. I love coming up with cheesy taglines. I thought of this one at like 3 am a few nights ago.

And, to add something else to this post, here's a pic I drew of my favourite r&b songstress CIARA for life drawing class. It's from her new video for Go Girl, which is absolutely amazing even if the song itself is really bland. Anways, enjoy! More taglines to come :)

I got to meet Eric Goldberg and Glen Keane this summer at my internship at Six Point Harness in L.A.

Needless to say, it was a dream come true. My boss Brendan was truly incredible for setting this up for us, and it's something that I'll never ever forget.

and i'm just gonna blame my disgusting appearance on the sheer geek excitement of meeting these two animation gods.

And i've been working on my 4th year film since i've been back! as of now, it's entitled "The Ballad of Amelia von Earl" and its about.. well, u'll see :)

The Delirious Journey of Ethan McKearney!

Hey everyone! So here's the post for April! I'll try to get more in than just this one, but I'll be pretty busy in the coming weeks getting ready for my summer internship! I'll be posting all about that real soon :)

So anyways, this is the poster for the group film that we've been working on at school. The character lineart was done by yours truly, the bg lineart was done by Brentton Barkman, and the colour was done by the very talented Brandon Gilbert.

I've also included a clip from the film. Basically, these were my two scenes (#22 and 23). The background in the first scene you see was also done by Brandon, but everything else is all Tapanimation, baby.

The story of our film goes like this: Ethan and his dad spend a nice, tranquil afternoon together and visit a coffee shop. Ethan is one curious kid and his dad isn't the most attentive parent, so one can only guess what happens when little Ethan grabs ahold of his dad's coffee! The effects of the coffee start to take its toll on our little hero as he goes on a journey thats equal parts delirium and adventure, followed by a whole lotta hilarity and suspense!

I'll hopefully be posting the film shortly. It's not quite 100% done, but it will be very soon. In the meantime, enjoy this little taste below!

Alrite, so, the wonderfully fantastic Bill Presing has been quite the inspiration to me ever since I discovered his blog and got his book.. so I thought the best way to break in the new watercolour brush pen thingie set I got was to do some girlies in his style. Here are some quick little ditties I painted up today on 4" x 6" watercolour paper. They were kinda fun, so I might do more, and obviously try to get better at it...

Hey everyone! I'm posting in December! That means there won't be a gap in my monthly archives.. :P

Anyways, this is a post dedicated entirely to my 30 second action analysis project that we 3rd years were working on at school this semester. Below I have some character model sheets and the background I used for my animation. The model sheets are hand drawn and inked, and coloured in Photoshop and the background was done in Illustrator. I've also attached a 6 second clip of the animation, which is basically the only thing out of the 30 worth watching because its coloured and composited.. the rest is rough animation thats basically there to fill up the 30 seconds. So.. I hope you enjoy! The monkey's name is Carlos, because Carlos did the voice for him (in a scene that's still rough animation.. so I may post it later). I think if I title my posts like this, it'll somehow motivate me to post more than once per month, so then i won't feel like a douche.

Anyways, our group film blog receptionproductions.blogspot.com (see previous post) is currently operating as a private members-only blog because basically, our group has 13 people in it, and that blog is the most convenient way to swap ideas, scenarios, and work-in-progresses. So we thought we shouldn't have it all open and public just yet.. but when our film is complete, we'll blow that bitch open and everyone can see everything.. eventually. :)

A very lazy ass. Actually, the reason this blog has been so dry lately is cuz I was working on my very first freelance gig illustrating the characters for a children's travel guide book. And school has started to pick up speed.. which I guess is a good thing cuz now I'll be forced to draw!

Chain Smoking Tamarin

Here is a little character I whipped up today. He's gonna be some sort of villian for something, but I don't know what that is yet. Alls I know is that he's a little chain smoking golden lion tamarin, and he has a temper that more than makes up for his diminutive size. Also, his bodyguards will be two burly, redonculously muscle-bound gorillas. I'll soon post a more refined image of him with his two bodyguards very shortly.

Again, if anyone can help me with a name for him, I'd gladly appreciate it. :)

I know I haven't updated my blog since like, forever, but I promise that will change now.. I really haven't got a valid reason, its really just a mixture of laziness, lack of motivation and drawer's block.. plus I've been interning this summer at Chuck Gammage Animation in Toronto, but that's really no excuse to not be posting, I guess...

However, I did go to the zoo recently with Ed and Robin (see links) and have some drawings from that, as well as a new character I'm working on.

So, I actually wanted to post this a couple days ago so I would at least have something for June, but it seems I will have a 3 month gap now in my updates, which kinda sucks haha. So sit tight! I'm almost done finishing up some things and will scan them shortly.

Thanks to those of you who kept reminding me to update, I think I'll finally listen. :)

Here it is. My Demo Reel.. without sound. The thing is, YouTube wants me to live my life with as much stress as I can handle, and therefore decides to upload my video again and again without the sound. 3 attempts later, it still doesn't work. So, I just say watch it in all its silent glory, or watch it and hum your favourite tune at the same time. Its interactive, people! Anyways, I hope you enjoy it and I will definately keep trying to post this thing the way its supposed to be.

Here's a couple of characters I designed a while back... Sly Fox and Skeez L. Weasel! Sly Fox is a thief for hire who is often employed by Skeez to steal various artifacts and such. In return, Sly gets to live life on the dangerous side and of course gets paid in his favourite currency - chickens. So who's the bad guy?
